Multivocal interface to remixing

Check out this article on sCrAmBlEd?HaCkZ!, a system that uses audio input (singing, beatboxing, talking, screaming) to remix audio and music videos. Basically, it

  1. Splits your input into musically significant parts
  2. Searches the database for the closest matching audio signature
  3. Remixes the video clips to match your input

Watch the video for a good explination and examples. Very cool stuff, this is what my MBX project would have loved to grow up to be.

Hillbilly beatboxing

NPR : Jimmie Riddle and the Lost Art of Eephing:

The eccentric Southern tradition of 'eephing' is best described as the hillbilly equivalent of the hip-hop human 'beat box' vocal style -- a kind of hiccupping, rhythmic wheeze that started in rural Tennessee more than 100 years ago...

A short audio story on eephing + some examples including an Evolution Control Committee remix of Jimmie Riddle.

BBC Beatboxing documentary

I found this cool little beatboxing documentary from BBC's 1Xtra:

Human beatboxing used to be the stuff of comedy films, a hip hop relic put on the shelf along with the Fatboys.

But new talent like Rahzel and UK-born Killa Kela have heralded a resurgence in the artform in the last few years.

We find out how beatboxing has lost its novelty tag and gained credibility. We catch up with originators like Doug E Fresh as well as asking where it's going now.

Plus there's a chance to get a tips from the experts in our own 1Xtra beatboxing lesson. It’s a chance to do the click roll and vocal scratch with the best of them!
